First in a series. Topics covered include: Definition of Public Health, History and Achievements of Public Health, How Public Health Works, Healthy People 2010 and Health Indicators, Public Health Structure, Community Assessment


Length: Approximately 60 minutes


Learning Objectives:

 By the end of this section, a participant will be able to:

  • Recognize two characteristics of public health.
  • Identify Healthy People 2010 and at least three of its leading health indicators.
  • Discuss the different types of prevention in public health.
  • Describe three basic steps involved in a community assessment.
